about

The title track was inspired by Gözde Mimiko Türkkan's 2023 exhibition "Waves of Intention" at Pilot Gallery, Istanbul. "What of an ocean without waves?" is a line from one of the artworks, all of which explored the concept of waves in some way.

The gallery space featured a small gathering room positioned behind and above the main exhibition space, which made me think of music with ocean waves below, strange bird cries above, and the thought of a waveless ocean everywhere around. Environmental themes, which permeated much of the artwork, provided the mood.

The acoustic portion of the track is an old out-of-print recording of Japan's - and the world's - oldest temple bell, the Bonsho of Myōshin-ji (妙心寺梵鐘).
